Nathaniel Bassey

He was an ordinary trumpeter until he composed a song at the visit of the late Stella Obasanjo, wife of former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo to an event his group was a part of.

He is from Ikono in Akwa Ibom state, Nigeria. Born in August, 1978, his father was a minister in The Apostolic Church Bashua Assembly.

Nigerian gospel music icon, Panam Percy Paul in concert two decades earlier, inspired him greatly. He also developed interests in jazz being inspired by the likes of Louis Armstrong, Miles Davies,Kirk Whallum etc. He joined a jazz quartet in Lagos named Spectrum 4 where he played alongside his childhood friends.

As time passed, he took a different path with music. He served exclusively at his local church and took international courses in music.

He is the first gospel act in Nigeria to spearhead an online worship challenge. He called it #Halleluyahchallenge. It streams live and miracles and testimonies are birthed and recorded worldwide.

He is the director of music at The Redeemed Christian Church of God: The King’s Court.

From his first hit song ‘ Someone’s knocking at the door’ to his recent hit, Olorun Agbaye, we all love the beautiful God-given music the Nathaniel Bassey blesses us with.
